Add a provider your harness doesn't know
Point it at any endpoint, even one it has never heard of, and paste the key. Hit Sync models and every model that endpoint serves appears in a list you can tick. No guessing at model IDs, no editing JSON.
Claude, Codex and Grok already work in your harness. Hakonfig is for everything else: the free tier nobody has heard of, your school's gateway, your own endpoint. Paste the key and Hakonfig writes the config, with a diff to check before anything is saved.

No more hunting through config files, guessing at JSON schemas, or making
.bak copies just in case.
Point it at any endpoint, even one it has never heard of, and paste the key. Hit Sync models and every model that endpoint serves appears in a list you can tick. No guessing at model IDs, no editing JSON.
Every harness keeps its settings somewhere different, and your API key often lives in a different file than the model list. Hakonfig shows you exactly where, with a button to open the folder.
✓ ~/.pi/agent/models.json
✓ ~/.pi/agent/auth.json
✓ ~/.pi/agent/settings.json
○ ~/.config/opencode/opencode.json
Hakonfig shows a full before-and-after diff of the files it is about to write. Secrets are masked, so it is even safe to screenshot and share.
The original files are snapshotted before anything changes. If something looks wrong, restore the previous version in one click.
Hakonfig detects what you already have and shows the version it is running. It can also install other harnesses for you, with the exact command shown for confirmation first. Hakonfig does not manage the provider config of those it only installs.
Unknown fields are merged, not overwritten. Writes are atomic. Credential files are written with owner-only permissions. And disabling a provider never deletes its data; it just hides it.
Hakonfig is not a proxy, not a gateway, and not a vault. It writes only to the files your harness already reads. It does not copy your API keys anywhere, does not send them to any server, and never writes them to a log.
~/.pi/agent/auth.json

Credential files are written with owner-only permissions (0600).
Open source under the MIT license. Every feature is included: no locked tiers, no account, no upsell. You pay only your AI provider, through the plan or API key you already have.
Download freeHakonfig is a desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux that reads, edits and writes the AI provider configuration for coding harnesses like Pi, oh-my-pi, OpenCode and Hermes. Instead of editing JSON or YAML by hand, you add a provider through a simple form and Hakonfig writes the correct files for you.
Anyone who has an API key and a coding harness but does not know where the config file is or what shape it should be. If you have ever opened a JSON file hunting for the place to paste a key, and then made a .bak copy just in case, this is for you.
Probably not, if everything you use is built in. Hakonfig is for the providers a harness leaves out: a free tier it has never heard of, a gateway your school or team runs, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Those normally mean hand-editing a config file that the harness never documents properly. That is the part Hakonfig does for you.
Yes. Hakonfig is open source under the MIT license and free for personal and classroom use. You only ever pay your AI provider.
No. Hakonfig has no server and no account. Your key stays in the file your harness already reads. The only time it leaves your machine is when you press "Test connection", and then it only goes to that provider's endpoint.
Pi, oh-my-pi and OpenCode are fully supported; Hermes is experimental. Hakonfig can also install Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Aider, Crush and Qwen Code for you, though it cannot manage their configuration yet.
You basically cannot. Hakonfig backs up the original files before every write, shows you a full before-and-after diff first, and merges rather than overwrites, so fields it does not recognise are kept. If something still looks wrong, restore the previous snapshot in one click.
Open Hakonfig, pick your harness, click "+ Add provider", choose a provider, paste your API key, click "Find models", tick the models you want, then Save. Review the diff and click Write to disk.
One small app (about 5 MB) to manage every AI provider in your coding harness.
